Ham Radio Net Meeting for Disaster Awareness and Mitigation

An interesting thing happened as I spoke to a ham radio station in Ohio Saturday morning. I had asked him if he would be interested in becoming listed as a prospective participant in a National Disaster Awareness and Mitigation Net Meeting. He became excited over the idea and said he would go one better. He offered to make local contacts and produce a list of his own. Then bring all these stations together for the net meeting. ( Note: A ham net meeting is a dedicated time and frequency for a ham radio meeting of a group of individual operators ) As I podered this it occured to me. If ameteur radio operators all over the country would spread the word about this kind of resource, all manner of entities could join the meeting and bring something to the meeting that could be beneficial to the cause. Maybe even life saving! First Responders, Officials, Dignitaries, Builders, and other professionals with constructive information that can help people prepare.
