Are Pilgrims & Puritans the same? (THIS IS PART 2) Many people are unaware that these groups are different. Their differences were sometimes contentious, but as they came to the New World those differences began to complement each other. Together they became powerfully influence the birth of a NATION. "They came out of the same Biblical Christianity. The Puritans were, (and are today), politically engaged. They were committed to work within the world system and to change it. The Pilgrims were dubious about this. They were, (and are today), separatists and not as politically engaged as the Puritan Christians on the right and the Ecumenical Christians on the left. Down through the centuries they have always affirmed the teaching of Jesus, "No man can serve two masters". Has the New World and the nation birthed, loved and cherished by both Puritans and Pilgrims now, by moving away from God, pushed off the influence these groups enjoyed for so long? Will the United States of America no longer be able extend the LIBERTY that has defined it greatness? If not, who will take its place? AS AN AMERICAN I HAVE ALWAYS SEEN MYSELF AS BOTH A PURITAN AND A PILGRIM. AFTER THIS YEARS ELECTION I HAVE NOW BECOME “JUST” A PILGRIM.... I echo Dwight L.
